(( Respect in the village ))

01 October 08 - 10:30

so things have been really busy here i went up to lilongwe after blantyre then after being away from the campsite return after 3 weeks, surprisingly shy had done nothing while id been away i say this with sarcasm because shy never seems to work if im not there god knows why but he doesnt and it does tend to make things a bit harder,

my house is almost complete just need to fit the doors and windows and paint the walls and it should be completed anytime in the next few days when i return so fingers crossed next week il have moved in to my new house.

i have been waking up at 4 in the morning then going to cultivate the fields with shy we finish about 7 then get back to the campsite about 7.30 have some breakfast and a shower then put in a full days work on the campsite, then i usually go into the office at 5 and do some office work untill about 7-7.30 so its been very busy at the moment and my body just aches. its a 30 minute walk to the field so that tires you out aswell but people in the village cant believe that

1 i know how to dig

2 im wiling to wake up early to dig

3 i then work on the campsite after digging

it seems to have given me alot of respect around the village for doing so

im in lilongwe at the moment and to cut costs ive been staying at friends houses and it also helps me learn alot about the way people live and the close knit communities there are. monday night i stayed at johns house its a one roomed house and there was 5 of us sleeping on the floor, no bed and you have to walk a long way to get water in the morning, it was an interesting experiance.

tuesday i stayed at berthas house which is a bit better at least i had a bed and shower but these house there are usually about 4 together with a wall around each set of four so basically 4 families live together and they all chat together and help each other out if someones stuck for food or money its really amazing to see that sort of thing
