(( new house ))

31 October 08 - 09:32

october has just been fukll of work and stress but still its fun out here even if some days i have to work from 5 am to 11 pm

at the start of october i was in lilongwe attempting to get my work permit sorted but to no avail immigration kept sending us back and forth from the office with new requirements with the forms i swear the kept making new things up just to piss me off by the end of a week of running back and forth from immigration i was ready to throttle the extremely unhelpful imigration officers neck but then decided against it as i thought it might damage my chances of getting the permit

i then headed back down to makwawa to help run the wood badge training course that was being held at the camp, this was really interesting it was being run by mostaff from zimbabwe who has a very deep passion for girls, whiskey and hunting brilliant combination i think we went through about 5litres of whiskey during that week, it was a very busy week having to get up early and stay wokring late untill everything was finished and we could lock the buildings up so i was very tired however i did manage to get work on the house in during rest periods

so on the 12th of october it was with great excitment and releif that i finally started to move my things in my new house which was beautiful well its beautiful to me, the roof leaks but hey who needs a working roof anyway i did tell shay off about the leaking roof but i havent got round to repairing it yet.

i am so glad that the house is finally finished it has faced some major problems duirng the conastruction, such as lack of pretty much anything and the miles we had to travel to find the materials we needed, the cost of the house was seriously a lot more than i had budgted for but the cost of things were rising as i was building so not much i could do really, the roof was twice as much as i had planned originally. but i am glad i am finally living in it. it has been very stressful completing it especially trying to get people ive hired to do the electtrics of plastering or the floor to show up at the time agreed you can arrange a timer of 9 they might show up at 9 but its more than likely they'l show up the next day at 9 ive learnt to double they time people say it will take them to arrive if someone says they'l bew there in an hour expect 2 or 3 hours later for them to arrive

monday the 12th of october saw a small celebration in the house with lots of GOAT MEAT AND SAUSAGES  mmmmm it was so nice and again lots of whiskey because it is stupidly cheap out here its like 2 pounds for a litre botle its brillaint so chrispin, aubrey, melvis ( a girl the district commisioner is trying to set me up with) hendrix, and his brother came over for some drinks and food it was really good.

then it was back up to lilongwe to collect my work visa as this was the time they had asked me to come and retrieve it, oh what surpise surpise its not ready come back in 2 weeks ahhhh ui was not happy but timo found my ranting and raving extremely hilarious as malawians are very used to delays and having to wait

i am not

after a week in lilongwe advertising and doing work with steve itn was back down to makwawa, we are hopefully getting the money for a maize mill soon so we set about demolishing one fo the old houses on the site were we have chosen for the maize mill start work at 4.30 and it was demolished by 6.30 and it was alot of fun i love smashing things

the monkeys are finding my new house very interesting and keep attempting to sneak inside for a proper look pesky little monkeys

hopefully going to start some work with the communuity soon, i want to run some course for brick laying and roofing at makwawa for the children with shay so hopefully will get that underway soon
