Day 2 - domasi hospital
Monday 22nd December
Woke up early as the car was supposed to be arriving at 6.30, so we had to get everyone ready, we had hired a car to transport the parcels to the hospital as it’s a long walk and we can’t carry them.
7:00 am luckily the cars a little late because we are not ready yet.
7:30 am we are all ready now but no car here yet? Trying to phone him but cant get through
8:00 am okay okay where is this car, we are 1hr 30 mins late now
8:30 am finally get through to the driver “WHERE ON EARTH ARE YOU?”
Apparently the owner has decided to increase the price of the car hire he found out it was a white man hiring the car. I was pretty angry I mean we are doing a charity event everyone here is giving up the time to help out everyone has put in so much effort to get all this organized and all he cares about is making a little bit of extra money. And they didn’t even bother to tell us they just didn’t show up. Well I just said yeah okay get your self’s up here NOW! After we had finished with the car though I paid the driver the original asking price and told him if the owner wants the extra money he can come and get it from me himself. So far he hasn’t
So all ready to go
Everyone was very excited and we ere all full of high spirits the procession left Makwawa with the car taking the lead with a couple of drummers sitting in the back and the father Christmases running around throwing sweets. Everyone else was singing an dancing and quite soon we had drawn a large crowd following us. Joining in with the singing and dancing. It’s a long walk to domasi hospital and people started to tire to more credit to them, they managed to keep going, with the same enthusiasm they had at the start.
Arrived at domasi hospital and carried on the singing which attracted a large crowd. I quickly slipped away because I was feeling really ill to the nurse and told her I was feeling sick has she got something to settle my stomach she asked me to take a malaria test so I did turns out I have got malaria so collected the medicine and arrived back just in time for my part in the play. Was the priest in the nativity play. After that we did lots of songs and action songs and tried to get everyone to join in which the crowd found hilarious.
Then it was the handing out of the parcels, we went around the wards distributing the parcels, now Malawians are very polite when it comes to receiving things no emotions at all blank faces, but you look back when you leaving or look through the window and you’ll see the biggest smiles on there faces. The excitement they cannot contain as they open the parcels the hand on the heart as they have opened them it was all very emotional for me.
So we managed to distribute to all the patients and staff at the hospital.
Now its time to walk back
Very late by the time we walked back and after we’d cooked lunch and cleared up the campsite and hall after the camp last night it was evening.
Time to sleep?
Haha no chance
I know have to organize for tomorrow another late night for me
