(( Thunderstorms, witchcraft, baby goats and a sledge hammer ))

Well its been pretty busy here at the campsite as usual, though we have not had any visitors. Its been major maintenance this past week.

So far the new year has started brilliantly me and shy are the best of friends again, I think a bit of bonding over the operation father Christmas and some time away from work for the both of us has done some good and now we are getting along like a house on fire.

So we have been doing maintenance work in the guest house as we have someone who has booked a room in there for 6 months so everything’s got to be in good condition as we cant exactly do work whilst they are staying there. first thing we did was to put a new drainage system in the showers. This was interesting to say the least. I was in the container getting some equipment when I heard this load crash. Shy had already started putting a whole in the wall for the pipe. He had gone from the outside of the house and had just guessed where the pipe was going. Myself I would have gone from the inside so I new exactly where to pout the hole. I got to the bathroom and he was about 30cm above the floor and knocked a load of tiles of he was also the wrong side of the showers about a meter away from where the hole should be I was just like. Shy put the sledge hammer down and walk slowly away from the wall. But it was very funny. Anyway I took over the operating of the sledge hammer and we got the hole in the wall and put in the new drain.

GREAT NEWS

My goat has given birth to a baby girl which I have named Cleopatra and she is beautiful as far as baby goats go. She is a feisty little thing and very inquisitive.

The next job we had was to repair the floor in my house as a tree has decided to grow through the floor. And also we are putting a step at the doors because water runs through the house when it rains so we need to stop that happening.

Now Malawians still believe heavily in witch craft more so in rural areas of course than in the cities. So many things are blamed on witch craft I don’t know if its because it’s a good scape goat or they don’t have anything else to blame certain things on or they genuinely believe witch craft exists. Which I think they do. Anyway shy is an African doctor. after work shy said he was going to songani because someone’s wife has had a curse or spell put on her. I looked at him to see if he was joking but he was deadly serious. He has this African remedy that is supposed to rid the person of this curse, apparently this women is acting really strange of something I don’t know. Anyway I thought , this I have to see,

We got there and he boiled some parts of a certain tree and mixed in some other strange things until it became a paste.

Then you will never guess what they do

They cut the skin very deep of the person, then they smear this paste into the wounds of the person and leave them to sleep and apparently this works?

I couldn’t believe it

Several pretty awesome storms have hit the zomba district, and we have been very lucky a  tree was blown over quite a large one and it missed the guest house by centimeters if it had fallen just as little bit more towards the guest house, well that would have been the guest house gone.  Another tree has fallen up by the Thompson again we were really lucky. The rain was unbelievable I have never seen anything like it
