Founders day camp

20th-22nd February

We organized a camp for the scouts to celebrate founders day for scouting on the 22nd febraury, we started on Friday 20th and although its weird to have a camp at your place of work and a 5 minute walk from your house it was a lot of fun, it was just the older scouts that were camping and the younger ones would just come for the day activities the next day. This camp was much better than the previous ones because I was on more talkative terms with the other older scouts and they were more used to me so it was quite a laugh, and it seems that it doesn’t matter what country you are in you don’t get any sleep on a scout camp.

In the morning we woke up early about 5 o clock to do some maintenance work on the campsite, then the younger scouts arrived and we headed off into the village to help some of the elderly, we built shelters for them to shower in and storage areas and plate dryers. And we also fetched water for them and swept their yards and things just doing some things to help them basically. After that we went up to the campsite and cooked lunch and the younger scouts did some clearing of the camping areas while us leaders lounged around in the sun. After lunch we did a lot of games and challenges and it was great fun. We then played a game of handball which the kids loved then the older scouts had a game against each other but we were really competitive and it lasted about 2.5 hours I think I can’t believe I managed to run around for 2.5 hours must be because ive quit smoking.

In the evening we had the traditional campfire we consisted of a lot of sketches and silly songs and was thoroughly enjoyed by all then most went to bed and me, chrispin and Aubrey decided to stay up cooking maize on the fire and drinking a local beer called chibuku which I have to say takes a lot of getting used to after many hours of cooking maize and drinking beer we headed to bed,

The next morning woke up a bit later mainly due to the amount of this chibuku I had drunk the previous night, and some of the girls had started a football match so we joined in briefly until I was forced to retire to the kitchen because I had a headache, nothing to do with the beer of course. We struck camp and everyone headed home.
