(( hiking ))
09 March 09 - 09:40
Friday 6th march
Today me and chrispin got together to write some songs and have a bit of a jam session in the evening at my house and we also decided to include a bottle of brandy for er.. inspiration and the fact that we just love brandy.
So everything was going well we had some songs written and they sound good in fact the lower the level on the bottle of brandy went the better they sounded and towards the end they sounded fantastic then I decided to coach chrispin in rock music we started off with guns and roses and soon we were playing air guitar around the house. At which point we realized the brandy bottle was finished.
And we decided the only thing to do was to run to songani to buy more so we gathered together what little kwachas we had and decided we could only afford the local chibuku beer,
So off we went into the night we ran to songani but not without rousing a few of our friends out of bed along the way and we reach songani. It was midnight and a Friday night I would have thought somewhere would be open but the only place that was open was pretty much empty and had run out of beer. Dejected we trudged back up the road home.
Saturday 7th march
Wow major hangover
Me and chrispin had already arranged to do a hike up to chifundi waterfalls today. And although we were both a little worse for wear we ran to the field gathered some maize and pumpkins and packed our bags ready to go. It was a long walk up to the waterfalls and I was pouring with sweat but amazingly I was feeling fine I think all the alcohol was just pouring out of my skin. We reached somewhere near the waterfalls and from then on there it was just African jungle, we had packed machetes because chrispin said we wouldn’t reach it without, so we proceed to climb up the waterfall, we decided the easiest way was to climb up the river so we took off our boots and I had them around my neck and chrispin took the bag, and it was a proper expedition cutting through vines and trees it was crazy, a proper test of physical endurance and there was definitely some tests of balance at one point it was typical sort of film kind of thing there was a tree across the river at one point and the only way was to cross the tree, it was a bit daunting. Then at one point I was standing on this ledge heading across the river again, with a huge drop and about enough room for my feet and no more I was thinking yeah this is the life, if I fall im gonna die. At another point I was climbing up a rock using this tree root that had grown down the rock and I was pulling myself up using the root and I was relying purely on my strength to hold me up, it was an experience I can say.
Finally we reach the main waterfall, and wow, it was worth it, it was beautiful.
So we lit a fire and we cooked potatoes, pumpkin, and maize and afterwards I just lay there in the sun and decided that I was not going to move, we were both a bit reluctant to leave but finally we decided we should so we headed back down.
